What is secondhand smoke?

Secondhand smoke is the smoke from the burning end of a cigarette, pipe, or cigar, plus the smoke exhaled by the smoker. eCigarettes produce a similar secondhand aerosol. Secondhand smoke is more than irritating; it is a natural health risk. However, it contains many chemicals classified as toxic, and it causes serious health problems.

BREATHING SECONDHAND SMOKE INCREASES THE RISK OF YOUR PARTNER DEVELOPING LUNG CANCER, HEART DISEASE, STROKE, ASTHMA, AND OTHER BREATHING PROBLEMS.

CHILDREN WHO BREATHE SECONDHAND SMOKE SUFFER FROM MORE COLDS, COUGHS, EYE, NOSE IRRITATION, AND ASTHMA ATTACKS.

SECONDHAND SMOKE AFFECTS YOUR PETS. DOGS ARE TWO TIMES MORE LIKELY TO DEVELOP LUNG OR NASAL CANCER. CATS ARE THREE TIMES MORE LIKELY TO DEVELOP LYMPHOMA, ANOTHER DEADLY CANCER.
